Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) creates supplier (HPI) responsibility in order to guarantee that, per the customer's forecast and planning, needed parts are readily available in the customer's warehouse. The supplier is prepared for the customer's orders and manages all the products themselves. SMI enables both sides to detect potential shortages before they happen, which prevents costly delays in production.
